Why family language policy is crucial ? Case studies from France and Pakistan

Pourquoi la politique linguistique familiale est cruciale ? Etude de cas de la France et du Pakistan

Résumé

In this talk, my purpose is to show that why family language policy remains an unexplored area in the sociolinguistic research, and particularly in France. What are the notions of the family language policies and what are the current theoretical framework proposed ? Why the family language policy has become crucial in our troubled times of mobility, in the context of immigration and identity issues among the second or third generation. Finally, I present two case studies on language practices and policies from families from Hmong & Hakka in France and in Pakistan.
