Women'hunting in Gbaya land

The Gbaya people of Central African Republic are hunters, gatherers and cultivators. Men are the principal actors of hunting with fires and women, during the same time at the fry season, do on the burnt ground a hunting which has a specific name. Women search the holes for the animals they capture and kill.They use a specific tool: a hoe-spade. Women's hunting is subject to an annual ritual of fertility, in order for them to keep their ability to kill animals. This ritual is related to men rituals.

Les gbaya sont de chasseurs-cueilleurs-cultivateurs. Les femmes gbaya ont leur propre chasse, une chasse de saison sèche où elles attrappent, sur les territoires brûlés, différents animaux dans leurs trous. Elles utilisent pour cela une houe-bêche et le gibier qu'elle rapportent est soumis, comme celui que les hommes rapportent des chasses aux feux, à une consommation rituelle que je présente. Cette situation, peut décrite, apporte à la réflexion ethnologique sur la chasse et la place des femmes un éclairage nouveau.
